Plod & Alyth

Following a wee run in with the local plod on the way to Meigle… the highway code says..
You should
1. keep both hands on the handlebars except when signalling or changing gear
2. keep both feet on the pedals
3. never ride more than two abreast, and ride in single file on narrow or busy roads and when riding round bends
4. not ride close behind another vehicle
5. not carry anything which will affect your balance or may get tangled up with your wheels or chain
6. be considerate of other road users, particularly blind and partially sighted pedestrians. Let them know you are there when necessary, for example, by ringing your bell if you have one. It is recommended that a bell be fitted.

So up through Alyth and then the Den of Alyth … to where it just got too icy.. so a swift about turn and back to the Meigle coffee shop for scones and coffee/tea. Then home via Newtyle!

Bill and myself side by side on A94 on straight part of road 1 mile before Meigle having a wee Sunday morning chat, very quite road, then blue lighted to a stop! We did think for a moment of trying to out run them but they had slightly more horse power in the Vauxhall Astra!

Also had a run in with Plod in the Co-op today as well, where it was said to me in no uncertain terms that if we carried on cycling 2 abreast then a ticket would have followed, to which i replied does 1 car in 6 miles constitute a busy road, yes the A94 is just classed as a busy road. Now slightly pissed of i told of my trip to pick up my car from Perth, where a car missed my handle bars by about a foot or so while in a single line, did i get any sympathy for that did I f**k. Thanks mr Plod for looking after my safety, when you should be out looking for the dick how almost took me out on the way to Perth. CHEERS!!!!!

Ps Must have been a really busy day at Blairgowrie when the local Plod is worried about 2 cyclists 2 abreast on the A94, oh and has the time to pop into the Co-op for a can of diet coke.

Wtf! Just as well the Dundee Wheelers chain gang didn’t pass the polis. Who know what they would have been done with! I’ll need to make sure I have the video camera every week incase there is more “reckless” cycling

  5. Keith says:

I presume that you are not allowed to overtake another cyclist then? That would be 2 abreast. Can you say next time you are overtaking but very slowly.
